VILLAGE PROJECTS 2024

PROJECT DELIVERY


During 2023 and early 2024, Stretton Parish Council has delivered on the following projects;


NEW! Three tiered planter installed at the Cat & Lion bus stop


NEW! Two 'Unknown Women In War' statues sited next to the Tommies recognising women's valuable work during the war


NEW! Second speed indicator device (SID) to be purchased to support the PC's aim for road speeds to be reduced where there is a greater threat to safety


NEW! More lights and baubles bought

for the two village Christmas trees


NEW! Two new benches installed near the Daisy to commemorate King Charles' Coronation


NEW! The stainless steel village map on the plinth next to Church/Primary School has been refurbished, although we are dealing with the Company to repair water leakage into the sealed cover


NEW! 4 Bat boxes have been erected in trees on PGT land with more in course of being made


NEW! Wild flowers have been sown next to the Village border sign on Stretton Road


NEW! 21 bird boxes have been installed in trees around the village, in a Group initiative with St Matthew's Primary School and 1st Appleton Scouts and Pewterspear Green Trust

NEW! New feature tree has been planted next to Appleton Thorn/Stretton border sign and planter


NEW! Platinum Jubilee plaques have been added to the existing noticeboards at Pewterspear Green Road and Summit Close


NEW! Overgrown verge cleared of weeds in front of St Matthew's Church and 250 tulip bulbs planted


NEW! The Parish Council is keen to deter vehicles parking on the grass verge up from The Beehive Post Office and the layby on Tarporley Road. New signs have now been installed to ask vehicle owners not to mount the verge, due to the significant damage being caused. We would like to thank all residents helping to keep Stretton looking its best!


2022 More lights were added to the Christmas trees located on PGT land opposite the Cat & Lion pub and next to Summit Close entrance, Lower Stretton, we hope you enjoyed them!


2022  Defibrillator sited on the wall at The Hollies Farm Shop, Lower Stretton funded with assistance from Creamfields

**In the event of an emergency phone 999, who will direct you to the nearest defibrillator and provide the code to open the box**


2022  Pair of Tommy figures erected at the Spire and near The Hollies Farm Shop


2022  Additional two more planters installed, with Summer and Winter planting


2022  Replacement noticeboard now installed near the entrance to Summit Close, Lower Stretton funded with assistance from Creamfields


The PC also secured funding from Creamfields for the delivery of a new music programme for St Matthew's CE Primary School


Additionally, Stretton Parish Council submitted a request for a number of young trees to be planted on Tarporley Road and Stretton Road as part of the Inland Border Facility Tree Funding Initiative

PROJECTS IN COURSE 2024


In addition to the projects recently delivered, the following projects are also due for delivery in 2024;


= Two further sets of 'Unknown Women In War and Tommy' statues ordered, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day - locations to be confirmed


= large poppies to be purchased to be put up along London Road, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day


= The PC is looking to replace the temporary 'Please Do Not Park On The Grass' signs located along the grass verge near The Beehive with permanent signs, given the damage caused by vehicles


= replacement gate to be funded at Hall Lane, after several years of reporting to WBC and no action taken to allow access for emergency services only


= The PC is funding a tidy up of the brick Bus Stop at the Cat & Lion, cutting back the hedgerow and general tidy up


= Further bat boxes have been made by Appleton Scouts and will be put up in suitable locations soon


= new village public walks maps to be installed at both Stretton and Lower Stretton


= Second three tiered planter to be ordered, to be situated at Owen's Corner. Existing planter to be moved to the small roundabout at Pewterspear Green Road/Longwood Road
